Conceptual Design to BETA
IV drug administration is a highly regulated device segment, making innovation in the space difficult and hospitals reluctant to displace their older reliable pumps. The Plum R&D team came to us with a formula to revamp it's legacy IV pump into a modern solution primed to finally retire these 20+ year old pumps from the hospital floor!
Our biggest innovation is an upgrade to a new dynamic touchscreen UI. Shifting from a utilitarian analog control panel to a rich graphically driven usability scheme provides the needed clarity and focus during critical pump programming.
We then developed a unique form factor divided into distinct work zones: side zones that isolate the manual messy task of cartridge loading and line management and the main zone projecting embedded touchscreen front and center for unobstructed sight lines and touch access to the new UI.
The result is a family of pumps, DUO and SOLO, that represent the giant leap in user centered design and a statement design piece for ICU Medical as they continue to grow their product portfolio and establish themselves as the modern market leader in drug infusion.
