Dexcom G6

Dexcom is one of the early pioneers of continuous glucose monitoring (CTG). By the release of their G5 product they had become one of several mainstays on the market, even so there were some glaring usability issues holding it back from a larger market adoption. For G6 they partnered with us to help a create a total usability/aesthetics makeover.

There were two major issues addressed. G5 was very intimidating for users to deploy because it leveraged a multistep application workflow, G6 reduced this to a single user initiated button press! G5’s applicator design was confusing with unclear usability cues, G6 moved to hand friendly forms that reinforce grip and posture of use.

G6’s combination of innovative usability and aesthetic cohesion greatly elevated user experience for CGM. These established principles have continued as a solid foundation for Dexcom as subsequent generations have released. Overall the success is clear as G6 ushered in an era where CGM has grown to nearly 50% adoption rate with type 1 diabetics.
